DISGRUNTLED

What comes to mind when you hear the term "disgruntled"? It is not used often, so most people think of the way the press used it so much in the 1980's--disgruntled-postal-employee--like one word. I would like to defend the USPS--but not right now. This post is to make fun of UPS and Fed Ex. By now everybody has heard that they plan to merge and be called Fed-UP. Actually, as you see in this photo the two have already merged.

This is a copy of a copy, so it is not so clear. But you can tell that a UPS truck clobbered a FedEx truck. As a postal employee, I pull for the UPS guy. The UPS folks work hard and make a little on each delivery, counting on volume to make money. The FedEX folks are elitists who rely on a great ad campaign and sales people to convince junior execs to pay double for the same service we provide--with a money back guarantee. I hope the UPS guy hits him again tomorrow. By the way, in my world UPS is pronounced OOPS.

I usually call people out when they use the term POSTAL. I tell them I am offended, and then they feel awkward. It's pretty cool.

I hate to say I've had better luck with UPS than USPS. I sent a package to my son - Huntsville, AL to El Paso, TX - 1st class on December 13. It arrived on February 13. Who knows where it was in between?? I've never had a problem with my stuff getting where it's supposed to be when I go UPS.

I am sorry about that bpb. Naturally, I get those stories with some regularity and it is easy to see how the massive parcel-sorting facility in Atlanta can damage or destroy a package. Sometimes they eradicate the address and can't determine where it should go. While I have never had any type of mail be lost, I know it does happen. UPS is a very good company. They have hard-working employees, a good business model and a solid reputation. My brother worked for them while in graduate school in Memphis and for a couple of years afterward until he started preaching. Several good friends in the Montgomery work for UPS as well and I respect those guys although we enjoy banter and I never let on that theirs is a legitimate company. While this post, like most of mine, are intended to bring a chuckle, I really think UPS or FedEx would be overwhelmed with the volume we handle daily. I am glad there is a UPS, even if only for the commercials with Dale Jarrett driving the brown truck around NASCAR tracks.
